Your Symphony

Oh baby girl,
I see your soft cement heart;
Still wet and new,
Still flat and smooth.

Oh baby girl,
So many will try to step onto,
Your soft cement heart;
Still wet and new,
still fresh and smooth.

With each footprint
your heart gets shaped;
With each step
you are affected;

With every word they speak,
They determine your shape;
Your symphony, your song.

Oh baby girl,
I wish it would be sweet;
But baby sometimes sweetness,
It don't run deep.

So baby girl,
I know you'll have,
Your share of joy and pain;
The majors and minors,
Of a beautiful symphony.

Oh baby girl,
Sometimes I wish I could protect you,
From those eager trampling feet.

But the soft, fresh cement will harden,
And stay in that shape forever;
And then where would we be?
If you were still flat and smooth,
I would be stealing away your symphony.

Oh baby girl,
I'll have to let them,
 step on your heart eventually

But for tonight,
Seeing you dressed in white,
My little lullaby,
Those trampling feet,
Will have to wait,
Till you're ready for your symphony.

The Air is Heavy

The air is heavy
All 'round me
The air is heavy
Pressing into me

My young blood flowed
And I rose by an inch
But the air is heavy
And I went back down.

My raw heart beat
And I pushed the air before me
But the air is heavy
And I went back down
Yes, I went back down

The ground is dusty
I can barely breathe
But the air is heavy
Pressing into me
